Here is T-Mobile's online mapping utility that tells you how your coverage is supposed to be:
T-Mobile Tower Reception Coverage Map
According to the map, my MDA should have excellent reception. And to be fair, WHEN it registers I have anywhere between 3-4 bars usually.
Again the problem is with the TIME it takes to register on the network once it's out of a black hole area.
So, in keeping with tradition, we're on the verge of launching a new site to document all of these issues from a customer/end-user perspective so that we can fight back! I still think the MDA is an awesome device.
I'd like to keep it with T-Mobile, but if the 7+ hours spent with tech support, tier 2 support, customer service, provisioning, the blackberry/mda data department, and a chorus line of other involved parties has taught me anything it's that T-Mobile doesn't know what's going on with their MDA reception issue or is unwilling to provide a resolution.
To date, two MDAs have been tested with a combination of 4 new T-Mobile SIM cards in all areas of San Francisco (where we're publishing from) and have two replacement MDAs coming in as recommended by tier 2 support. If this continues to fail, we will write a formal complaint to T-Mobile and request "signatures" of those who are also having these issues so that they can finally address it.
Anyway, the new site is called CarrierComplaints.com. Please do let people know that there will be a formal place to address your issues with the carriers. Think of it as OUR "trouble-ticket" system! :)
