Well, if you are like the many who have reported issues with their iPhone 2G or 3G home button not working, ask yourself this...
Does your iPhone have a lost of dust around it? Perhaps there's dust trapped inside the home button preventing it to fully depress.
Or, perhaps you went to the beach or gym and had some water splash over it. You thought it was ok after drying it... but then some functions stopped working. You may have water damage!
